About Coolabah Law Chambers
Jeff Tran - BSc., LL.B
Jeff is a trial lawyer and he has entered the legal profession for more years than he would like to remember. Jeff has practised in a wide range of areas of the law. He appeared in many hearings in Magistrates’ Courts and he has appeared as a Counsel on many occasions for clients in criminal jury trials ranging from aggravated burglaries to serious drugs and sexual offences. Jeff has also successfully appeared in the Victorian Court of Appeal on a Crown Appeal and other Appeals. Case 1, Case 2 Although Jeff has sincere respect for the Bench, he is not afraid to argue and fight for his clients. Jeff believes that each of his clients must be properly represented and must receive a ‘fair go’. To appreciate Jeff’s keenness one has only to learn of one occasion when, during his closing address to the jury, Jeff performed an impersonation of Austin Powers in “The Spy Who Shagged Me”. Jeff’s client was successful in that case! When dealing with family law matters, Jeff believes in the mediation process. Many of Jeff’s family law mediations are settled on or before the scheduled date of the mediation. Because of the fact that Jeff has practised law in the city and regional areas, Jeff gained wide ranging experiences and that allow him to provide advice on Criminal Law, Family Law, General Litigation, and Wills. For example, Jeff was acting as an instructing solicitor in a breach of copyright case while at the same time, in another case, he was preparing to act as co-counsel for a client facing allegations of rape and indecent assaults. Jeff is a refugee and was one of the ‘Boat People’. He is also fluent in Vietnamese and enjoys table tennis, hiking and camping. Jeff also volunteers at community legal centres. |
