Our Services

Criminal Law (including traffic matters)

We have represented clients on criminal charges and appeals ranging from the Magistrates’ Court to the Court of Appeal in Victoria. We have successfully conducted criminal jury trials as well as presenting pleas in mitigation.

Our principal (Jeff Tran) is a trial lawyer. Therefore, for the majority of the cases, our clients do not need to worry about dealing with other barristers when they come to us.

Family law

A relationship break up is not usually a pleasant experience. At Coolabah Law Chambers we always keep in mind the difficult times that our clients are going through, especially when children are involved.

We often practise in getting contact with the children for our clients and obtaining custody of the children. We also make sure that any property settlement is fair and reasonable for our clients.

Due to the nature and requirements of the Family Law Courts, we always strive to settle matters for our clients as soon as possible and in the majority of cases, before the mediation. This practice usually saves our clients headaches, time and money.

We also prepare pre-nuptial agreements. The courts place heavy emphasis on these agreements following the requirements of the Family Law Act (Cth) 1975. If a pre-nuptial agreement is not properly prepared, then trouble may arise later if the parties separate.

Commercial litigation

A breach of contract (or agreement) is one of the most common areas of commercial litigation that people or businesses are engaged in. We provide advice from a simple breach of an agreement to pay for goods and services to a complicated breach of copyright case. For more details about our involvement in the latter, please go to  Breach of Copyright Case

We handle matters in the Magistrates’ Court right through to the Full Federal Court of Australia. There are strict time limits placed on the parties and we recommend that you do not wait or delay to seek legal advice. For example, our principal (Jeff Tran) once represented a client who failed to appreciate the effect of a claim for a debt just above $3,000. Instead of just defending the claim in the Magistrates’ Court, that client had to fight against a petition to declare him a bankrupt. The whole process ended up costing him thousands of dollars more than necessary if he’d taken some preliminary advice.

Wills & probate

Wills and probate are not only last but also the least favourite topic at the dinner table. However, our experience shows that a properly prepared Will can take the headaches away from our loved ones.

For more information, please go to our article on why make a Will.

We have a soft spot for Australian War Veterans, so we prepare Wills for these veterans and their partners at half price. Further, if you can’t come to us, we’ll go to you. Contact 8742 6920 for an appointment.
